Our first stop after Crossing the Causeway is the Acadian community of St-Joseph-du-Moine, in north western Cape Breton. The voice you hear at the end of this song is the prolific singer Peter Chiasson, grandfather of Hilda Chiasson. Hilda plays piano on this track and Nicole Deveau, on harmony vocals, is a cousin. During a visit to the Nova Scotia Archives, I stumbled on this song, collected by Helen Creighton in 1944. I have enjoyed singing this song over the years, and it was fun to record it with family members and learn more about this tradition-bearing man who sang so generously.
