Mary Beth Carty

Weekly CBC Radio program East Coast Music Hour commissioned me to write a song for The Story and The Song in February 2021 on the theme of “rebirth.” The melody came to me in a dream, and the idea to write about old blueberry agricultural practices. Further inspiration came on a hike in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park with my soul-sister Tara Lewis and musical collaborator Bradley Murphy, who you hear on piano and voice. We were sitting at the Doryman Tavern discussing where to go hiking the next day. Tara said, “What about Blueberry Mountain?”
